It is illegal in Illinois for an employer to take retaliatory action against an employee who discloses or threatens to disclose information related to an activity, policy, or practice of the employer that the employee believes is illegal or poses a safety or public health risk. It is also illegal in Illinois for an employer to retaliate against an employee for the employee’s refusal to participate in conduct the employee believes is illegal. There are a number of whistleblower protections under Illinois and Federal law and you should seek legal counsel immediately if you feel your employer has retaliated against you for reporting or threatening to report illegal activity.
